Bantwal: Statewide foot & mouth cattle disease control campaign begins in DK district

Bantwal, Sep 03, 2014: The district level inaugural function of seventh round of National foot and mouth cattle disease control programme began statewide from Monday September1. It will conclude on September 20. It was inaugurated at Milk producers’ co-operative Society premises, Kuriyala village, near here at the collaboration of Dakshina Kannada ZP animal husbandry and veterinary services department and Dakshina Kannada Milk Producers Union Limited (DKMUL) here on Monday September 1 at 9.30am.

The state forests, ecology and DK district-in-charge minister Ramanath Rai inaugurated the 20-day district level seventh round of National foot and mouth disease control programme.

 

The minister Rai in his inaugural address said that both union and state governments are supporting animal husbandry by offering Rs 4 per liter of milk as support price for the dairy farmers, buying milk for the state sponsored Ksheera Bhagya programme, said minister Rai.  He urged the officials of animal husbandry, veterinary services departments and DKMUL to administer food and mouth pulses to all cattle in the district thereby make the success of f the programme.

 

DKMUL managing director D V Satyanarayan assured wholehearted support from DKMUL for the success of programme. 

 

TP member Atria Sequeira Amtady, Kuriyala gram panchayat member Valerian Pinto was present on the occasion.

 

The taluk veterinary services assistant director Dr Henry Lasrado in his introductory address explained the importance of the programme.  He said that 22 teams were formed in DK district to administer the pulse to cattle to make the success of seventh round of National programme.

 

Kuriyala milk producers’ co-operative Society president Alex D’Souza in his presidential address urged fellow dairy farmers to avail the national programme to secure their cattle against the dreaded disease.

 

Vamadapadav vet clinic Dr Ravikumar compered the programme.  DKMUL deputy general manager Dr T V Srinivas proposed vote of thanks.

 

The minister Rai released the hand bills on foot and mouth disease during the programme.

 

The pulse was administered to about 1,450 cows on the occasion.

 

Animal husbandry assistant director Dr Ashok Shetty D, Dr Umesh Kiran S, Dr Avinash Bhat, Dr Sunil Kumar, vet officer Dr Mascarenhas, vet assistants Balakrishna, L J Suresh and Kishore, milk producers co-operative Society – Navoor and neighbouring villagers were present.

 

The pulses were administered to a total of 13,424 cows in DK district on Monday September 1.
