Bantwal/Puttur: Suspicions deepens on progressive farmer Shyam Prasad’s suicide case

Bantwal/Puttur, Sep 02, 2014: The entire people of Kedila village were in deep shock, when the progressive farmer Shyam Prasad Shastry, a native of Badekkila killed himself with his gun.
Sham Prasad was a simple and kind man who would help anybody in need. He was actively involved in social and religious activities. He led the renovation of several temples in his life. His close associates find it difficult to come to terms of his loss.
Suspicious death
Shyam Prasad was having lunch with his family at home on Sunday August 31, when his mobile rang. As Shyam Prasad was speaking to the caller, he threw the mobile handset and rushed to his room and shot himself, police sources informed. Meanwhile, the further investigations into this incident by the police will reveal the real motive behind this act. The police have recovered a death-note that they held it in secrecy.
As per reliable sources, Shyam Prasad was close to Swami Raghaveshwar, and the former was worried whether this proximity would strain his relations with the latter. Shayam Prasad was depressed as he got to hear about all sorts of stories related to Swami Raghaveshwar. Shyam Prasad determined to meet Swami Raghaveshwar on the allegations of sexual harassment of his sister-in-law by the same Swami. He secured an appointment with Swami Raghaveshwar 2 days ago, and made preparations to visit him on Sunday September 31 in his car. However, Shaym Prasad killed himself on the same afternoon.
In another version of rumors that Shyam Prasad was threatened of ex-communicating from Brahman community related to his close association with Swami Raghaveshwar.
Seizure to Puttur police station
The people of Kedila village laid seizure to Puttur police station on Sunday at 11.00pm, demanding the police to identify the caller on Shyam Prasad’s mobile phone, alleging the caller had threatened Shyam Prasad, who was already depressed might have killed himself with his gun. Meanwhile, further investigations by the police will reveal the exact cause for his death.
Last rite
The last rite of Shyam Prasad who shot himself was held as per Brahmeen traditions here on Monday September 1. The dead body was brought from KMC Hospital, Mangalore after postmortem and cremated after his niece arrived from London at 2.30pm. The community head Mudraje Govind Bhat, Purohit Mittur Narasimha Bhat performed the funeral service. Shyam Prasad’s son Eshwar Sandesh lighted the pyre of his father. The hundreds of people were present on the occasion.
Puttur town police provided security at the location in order to avoid any untoward incidents.
