Mumbai: Yakashagana Kala Prashasti - 2014 awarded to veteran artistes

Mumbai, 31 Aug 2014: Billawar Association Mumbai® organized the conferring of late Acchu C Suvarna memorial Yakashagana Kala Prashasti – 2014 that was instituted by Jaya C Suvarna at Narayan Guru auditorium, Billawar Bhavan, Santacruz (East) here Friday August 29.
Bharat Co-operative (Mumbai) Bank chairman and All India Billawa Federation president Jaya C Suvarna inaugurated here on Friday.
Billawar Association president Nityanand D Kotian presided the programme.
Yakshagana Kala Prashasti – 2014 was conferred to the noted scholar Ambatanaya Mudrady, Yakshagana artiste Ganesh Chandramandala and Banumati Chandramandala on the occasion. The Prashasti comprised cash award of Rs 25,000, citation letter and memento each.
Sangeet Vidwan Brahmavar Chandrashekar Kedlaya, Kannadiga Patrakartara Sangh Maharashtra president Chandrashekar Palettady were the guests of honor.
Jaya Suvarna in his inaugural address said, ‘I am a fan of theater, Yakshagana and used to attend such shows. Meanwhile, I had an inclination to foster all art forms and the result was instituting the award in memory of my departed mother,’ said Jaya.’
The award recipient Ambatanaya said Mumbai is like mother-in-law’s house for Yakshagana which get due patronage from philanthropists. He commended Jaya for instituting award in the memory of his mother.
Another recipient Ganesh Chandramandala said that he is a small artiste in largesse of Yakshagana and it has enhanced his responsibility to strive for professional excellence.
The Association president Nityanand D Kotian, vice president Chandrashekar S Poojary, Jyoti K Suvarna, Bhaskar M Salian, honorary chief treasurer Bhaskar V Bangera, women wing president Shakuntala K Kotian, past president L V Amin, Leelavati Jaya Suvarna and others were present.
Yakshagana artiste Vasudev Marnad read the citation letter.
Kusha – Lava, mythological episode of Yakshagana was staged as part of entertainment programme.
