M’lore: National Bunt Women’s Convention lays emphasis on Matriarchal Society to curb wo

Mangalore, Aug 25, 2014 : The need of the times are to go back to matriarchal society that will facilitate cultural upbringing by the mothers, which would curb atrocities on women to a greater extent, said Puttur MLA Shakuntala Shetty.
MLA Shakuntala was delivering her presidential address during National Bunt Women’s Convention ‘Shakti’ held at Ramakrishna College grounds here on Sunday August 24.
MLA Shakuntala said, ‘Our community is the only community which has matriarchal family system since ages in the patriarchal society. We have the speciality to mingle with people of every community in any place of the world and work with them. Hence our community stands unique in our society today,’ said MLA Shakuntala.
‘In the situation wherein the atrocities on women are increasing, we want to teach a lesson to the men. But we have forgotten that what values we have imbibed to our male children. We don’t trace their movements. Due to which they fall into bad company that lures them to commit atrocities on girls,’ said MLA Shakuntala.
MLA Shakuntala further said, ‘To curb this as a mother we should take initiative to teach our male children that every female has to be respected as a mother/sister. If we imbibe the values in childhood, we will be definitely able to curb these atrocities and the power of matriarchal family system will play a vital role in implementing this,’ said MLA Shakuntala.
Mathanandamayi of Odiyoor mutt after inaugurating the Convention said, ‘Bunts community always fought for the religion and the justice. The leadership of Bunt community has done wonders in our country which is appreciable,’ said Mathanandamayee.
‘Today, it’s due to degeneration of human values in the society, more atrocities on women are occurring. We must consider our children as our assets. We should give them human values to build a better society. The women have to show her power to the society by doing this,’ said Mathanandamayee.
Sandalwood actress MLA Tara Anuradha, who inaugurated the cultural heritage exhibition, greeted the gathering in Tulu. She said, ‘A women can light the lamp in a house as well as she can burn the house. Women’s power is the most powerful power in the world and the women have to realize this,’ said MLA Tara.
‘In the modern society when the roots of the family have become fragile, the education should begin from the house and the mother should be the first teacher. Only then, we will be able to imbibe good values to the children,’ said MLA Tara.
The Convention chairman who is also vice president of Bunts Association Mumbai ® Dr Ashajyoti Rai, Lata J Shetty and others were present on the occasion.
The women of Bunts community from all over the nation participated in daylong Convention with great enthusiasm and it was indeed a mega success.
