Mangalore: LIBTRANS - 2014 National Conference inaugurated at Besant Evening College

Mangalore, 22 Aug 2014: ‘Librarians should take the maximum benefit of Information Communication Technology and adapt themselves like Smart Phones to provide latest information services to library users,’ said Professor K Byrappa, vice chancellor of Mangalore University.

 

Professor Byrappa was speaking after inaugurating, national conference on Libraries and Librarianship in Transition: Challenges and Opportunities LIBTRANS-2014 at Besant College, here on Friday August 22.

 

Professor Byrappa while sharing his experiences of librarians and libraries, said that the managements and librarians have to work hand in hand to take the libraries and library services to greater heights.

 

 

Madras University department of library and information science Professor Ramesh Babu, delivered the keynote address.

 

St Aloysius College (autonomous) registrar Dr A M Narahari, was the guest of honor.

 

Dr Narahari said that it is the right time to change the designation of librarians to the equivalent of lecturers and professors and provide all benefits due to them.

 

Women’s National Education Society chairman Kudpi Jagadish Shenoy presided the programme.  He congratulated the organizers and wished every success to the programme.

 

The seminar volume containing 93 papers and the news bulletin of DK and Kodagu Library Association were released on this occasion.

 

The retired member of the Association, T Indira, librarian of Canara First Grade College, 7 PhD holders in Library and Information Science and the I Rank holder in M LI Sc from Mangalore University were felicitated on the same occasion.

 

Besant Evening College correspondent Nagar Narayana Shenoy, Karnataka College Librarians Association president Vijayakumar and secretary Dr Mahesh Horkeri, Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu Librarians Association president Dr Sujatha H R, secretary Lokanath Poojary, Gulbarga University deputy librarian Dr Suresh Jange, deputy librarian and others were present at the dais.

 

Pooja and group rendered the prayers.  Besant Evening College principal Dr Carmelita Goveas welcomed the gathering.    The organizing secretary Dr Vasappa Gowda gave the outline of the conference and the proceedings. Laxminarayan Bhat proposed vote of thanks.  Roshal Coelho compered the programme.
