SJEC Alumni Association - Mangalore Chapter launched

Mangalore, 19 Aug 2014: The Alumni Association of St Joseph Engineering College (SJEC) was inaugurated during a function held at Cordel Hall, Kulshekar here on Saturday August 16.
SJEC chairman and Mangalore bishop Dr Aloysius P D’Souza presided the programme here on Saturday evening.
SJEC founder director and Milagres parish priest Fr Valerian D’Souza, was the chief guest of the occasion.
SJEC designated director Fr Ajith Menezes, assistant director Fr Rohith D’Costa, SJEC principal Dr Joseph Gonsalves vice principal, Dr Rio D’Souza, dean – student welfare and alumni affairs Dr Vincent Crasta, were the guests of honor.
Bishop Dr Aloysius inaugurated SJEC Alumni Association - Mangalore Chapter by unveiling the logo of the Association.
Fr Valerian D’Souza, in his address, recalled the initial days of SJEC and the journey of growth and development over the past 12 years. He expressed his happiness in the formation of the Alumni Association and also his satisfaction at being able to meet the alumni and learn about their success and growth.
Dr Vincent Crasta administered the oath to the newly-elected office bearers: Nelson Castelino (president), Carlton Mario Antony Sequeira (vice president), Evita Coelho (secretary), Franco Aldrin J Menezes (treasurer), Shwetha Devanga (event co-ordinator), Karthik Madhyastha (media co-ordinator).
The office bearers placed lighted lamps in front of the logo as a symbolic gesture of accepting the responsibility of the Association.
Nelson Castelino, addressed the gathering and laid out the plan of action for the Association in the coming months and also announced that SJEC Alumni Reunion Day will be celebrated annually on December 23.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Joseph Gonsalves emphasized the role of alma mater in the growth of the Institution. He cited examples of Alumni: MIT - Manipal, Nokia CEO Rajeev Suri and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and expressed his dream of witnessing Alumni from SJEC also reaching such positions of excellence in various Multinational Corporations. He invited the Alumni to keep visiting their Alma Mater, interacting with their teachers, and offering suggestions and feedback, which is vital for the growth of the Institution.
Bishop Dr Aloysius felicitated the rank holders at University Level exams, who brought laurels to the Institution.
Bishop Dr Aloysius, in his presidential address said that an educational institution plays a major role in forming and transforming its students into successful citizens. He called upon all the alumni to get involved in strengthening the Vision and Mission of their Alma Mater. He emphasized that it is the duty and responsibility of an alumnus to support the growth of the institution. He said that alumni are the elder brothers and sisters of the students studying in the college, who will always look up to them for guidance. He stressed the fact that, alumni associations are not for collecting money and stated that SJEC Alumni will work towards connecting the Institution with the Alumni, who are its ambassadors. He concluded by congratulating the rank holders, who have brought laurels to SJEC.
Sweethin and Vikram rendered the prayers. Fr Ajith Menezes welcomed the gathering. Dr Rio D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks. Diveena Fernandes and Joel Concesso compered the programme that was concluded with dinner.
