Mangalore world class station work will start immediately if Private players come forward: DVS

Mangalore, Aug 17, 2014 : The central railway minister DV Sadananda Gowda has said that if the private firms come forward to develop the Mangalore Central railway station as the World class station under the Private Public Partnership(PPP) model then the department will make arrangements to start the work in this regard immediately.
He was answering to the queries raised while interacting with the media persons in the press club today.
He said “There is shortage of funds in the railways. The railway is keen to start off with the developmental activities but the shortage of funds has been a problem. Due to the same issue the world class station proposal is impending.”
Speaking about the Bangalore-Mangalore railway route he said that, within a year he will make arrangements to reduce the travel time by two hours. For the constricting the new tracks in the ghat section one has to wait for 2016 march.
Answering a question he said “There are pressures from various railway divisions regarding the Mangalore division. Hence I will work after balancing with all the divisions and hence independent Mangalore division will not be a reality soon”

He later said that Bio-fuels will be introduced in the Indian railway and in the initial stage 25,000 bio-toilets will be introduced in the trains. As a trial a station with very less train density will be chosen and all the trains passing through that station will be equipped with the bio-toilets. The biomass recovered will be utilized for making vermi-compost”
“Even though this is a costly measure this will be revolutionary measure to resolve the problem of latrine on rails”, he added.
“The railway underpass which is to be constructed at Padil will be completed by March 2014”, he concluded.
