Udupi: SSLC and PUC meritorious students of Belle St. Lawrence Educational Institutions honoured

Udupi, 02 Aug 2014: The annual Pratibha Puraskar to the meritorious SSLC and PUC students of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions  in honour of late Padmavati Vittal Rao and late Prof. Bhavani Rao sponsored by Belle Ravindranath Rao, son of Late Padmavati Rao and an eminent industrialist and philanthropist from Bangalore was distributed on Saturday, 2 August 2014 at 11 am in St. Lawrence PU College Hall, Moodubelle. Over one lakh rupees worth cash prizes were given to the students who had scored distinction marks in SSLC from  St. Lawrence Kannada Medium and English Medium High Schools and Second PUC of St. Lawrence PU College.

 

The programme was presided over by Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes, Correspondent of St. Lawrence Educational Institutions. Other dignitaries on the dais included, Dr. Y. Sudarshan Rao, an eminent surgeon from Udupi  as the chief guest, Belle Ravindranath Rao and his wife Mrs. Malini Rao, Rajendra Shetty-President of Belle Grama Panchayat, Mrs. Ida Gibba D’Souza-member of  Udupi Zilla Panchayat, B. Sadananda Rao-retired teacher from Church Aided Higher Primary School and a close relative of Ravindranath Rao, Mrs. Snehalatha-cousin of Ravindranath Rao, Alphonse K. Alva-Vice President of  the Parish Pastoral Council, Fr. Paul Sequeira-Principal of St. Lawrence PU College and Mrs. Sarojini Kamath-Senior teacher of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School. A number of relatives of Ravindranath Rao  including Wing Commander Belle  Dev Rao, Mrs. Vaijayanthi Belle, Karunakara Belle, Mrs. Sujatha Belle, Mrs. Savitha, Mrs. Jayalaxmi and Niranjan-son of B. Sadnanada Rao were present for the programme.

 

Mrs. Shyamala introduced the chief guest Dr. Y. Sudarshan Rao to the audience.

 

The SSLC result of St. Lawrence Kannada Medium High School was analysed by Mrs. Leena D’Sa and Pratibha Puraskar to the students scoring distinction marks were distributed by Dr. Y. Sudarsjhan Rao. The result of St. Lawrence English Medium High School was narrated by Mrs. Malathi and prizes for the meritorious students were given away by B. Sadananda Rao. Navin Correa read out the results of Second Year  PUC  students of St. Lawrence PU College and they were honoured by giving cash prizes by Belle Ravindranath Rao. Dilip Kumar, Computer lecturer of St. Lawrence PU College was conferred with ‘Best Teacher Award for 2013-14’ by Dr. Y. Sudarshan Rao.

 

 

On behalf of the winners of the Pratibha Puraskar-2014, Vinyas Pai, Daisy Mendonca and Rashmi thanked Belle Ravindranath Rao for his generous contribution in form of cash prizes to the students who score distinction marks. They also thanked the school and college authorities and teachers for imparting good education.

 

In his brief address, Dr. Y. Sudarshan Rao said that he has close relation with the Belle Rao family. He urged the students to put in best efforts in their education and not to waste their time in un-academic activities.

 

B. Sadananda Rao complimented the meritorious students and reminded all the students that St. Lawrence High School has a good tradition of quality education as in 1962, one of the students Philip D’Souza had scored first rank in the Karnataka State  in SSLC examination.

 

Mrs. Snehalatha in her speech pointed out the finer qualities of Belle Ravindranath Rao. She said that Ravindranath Rao has been a person who believed in simple living and high thinking. He has been a man of few words but great deeds. He has been helping people in various ways irrespective of their caste or religion. His roots with Belle are so strong that he has named his house in Bangalore as “Belle Mane”. Mrs. Snehalatha further said that every student has one or the other hidden talent which he or she should develop.

 

Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes honoured Belle Ravindranath Rao and his wife Mrs. Malini by offering them shawl, garlands and fruits.

 

In his address, Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes thanked Belle Ravindranath Rao for sponsoring cash awards amounting to Rs. 1,17,000 to the students who had scored distinction marks in SSLC and PUC. He made an appeal to the students to follow the example of Belle Ravindranath Rao by dreaming big and trying to realize those dreams.

 

Alphonse K Alva was felicitated by Rev. Fr. Joswey Fernandes on the occasion of his fiftieth birthday by offering him flowers.

 

Fr. Paul Sequeira welcomed the guests, Mrs. Sarojini Kamath proposed the vote of thanks and Edward Larsen D’Souza compeered the programme.
