4-laning of NH17 is overdue. But, there are issues, one such raised here, require to be addressed by NHAI, coordinating agencies and administrators. They have to find a viable and acceptable solution.

Our nation wants to grow strong economically and uplift the poor. Economic growth demands infrastructure development. The rural and semi-urban centers along motorable roads and highways will transform continuously in the future too. So, the legislators shall devote their energies to legislating related laws and framing rules; and not make the arbitrary but populist decisions.
The NHAI certainly has engineers with knowhow to evolve alternatives: a) create a three lane One way , and construct a bypass for return way, or b) construct a flyover or under-pass through. What may seem expensive may be less so, if future needs are evaluated.

However, it is important to get our highways traffic to reach speeds that are norms internationally, and cut travel times and assure safety. This may even need 6-laning.

With the death, injury, pain, penury and destruction, it is important to recall the aftermath: surrender of militarist regimes, end too the most devastating war in the history of mankind, emergence of democratic rule in Europe, emergence of several independent and free nations ending the colonial control of Europe, reconciliation of the powers at war and especially the US-Japanese collaboration to build a future as new peaceful nation for a bruised people, the forgiveness (not hatred) of the vanquished towards the vanquisher,..the list can go on. These were the fruits of the sacrifices Hiroshima and Nagasaki made. The good brought on by evil. Therefore, let it be remembered that the existence of nuclear threat has prevented WW-III, despite having lot more reasons why the world could go to war..It is nobler to abolish them, but they also have served a noble cause, strange it may seem..

These development are called ribbon developments on highway side. Inspite of minimum requirements of setback for constructing buildings from median of the road, why the authorities given permission to build the buildings? I have doubt that the authorities not have taken the undertaking from the owners of these buildings. If you notice most of these buildings came up in recent years. That means knowingly the permissions were granting. Thinking that all can fight against land acquisition.Same thing was happening in Udupi, regarding the widening of Udupi- Manipal road. Mr. Noronha think about public safety also. How many lives have been lost so far because of these conjestion of road NH 17. In my opinion govenment should take bold steps and should not compromise to give rise the chances of further problems.

Benedict Noronha, Udupi

Our leaders must think about the welfare and not to destroy and build attitude. IN Kerala for the same N.H.17 the widening within towns is much less than in other open areas. Then why not at Mulki and Padubidri? Why the widening of Highway must cause demolition of the bildings houses etc? Let there be less width and let there be speed limits. Then damaging could be reduced. Aletrnatively think of bye-pass, which was the thinking of Leaders like Dr. Acharay a and others a decade ago. I wish better counsel will prevail and the affected will be relieved of the fear and the expected loss of proeprty.

I have been closely following all the reports of the journey of statue and I really admire the people of moodubelle. The dedication shown by Fr. Joswey, Dr. Eugene, Mr. Anil, Gurkars of the wards and all the leaders of the parish. This would not have been possible without their hard work. Fr. Joswey has been blessing all the houses personally. I am sure it is more than a difficult task to gather all the information of each ward and its people and present them beautifully as it was done by Dr. Eugene. Dr. Eugene and Mr. Anil might have had to adjust or schedule their other commitments for covering these celebrations. Readers of Bellevision like me are really moved by this.

What a character these Spanish have, tomato war, bull fighting and so on. Some of their such actions were even demonstrated during world cup matches. Well, tomato war may be ok but bull fighting is far too terrible.

Most Modest and Highly Confident player is Sachin Tendulkar. He said only Indians will be able to break his records. True at present most of us know one Indian. He is Sachin Tendulkar who will be breaking his own records and other can be the one who take Sachin Tendulkar as his Role Model.
