OUR MOODUBELLE ST.LAWRENCE ASSOCIATION IS ONE OF THE OLDEST ASSOCIATION IN MUMBAI AND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE TOOK THEIR SHELTER.IAM APPEALING NON-RESIDENT I MEAN NRI MEMBERS HAVE TO HELP FINANCE SUPPORT FOR GROWTH OF OUR MOODUBELLE ASSOCIATION.PLEASE COME FORWARD AND HELP.
Congratulations Dr Eugene. It is a very interesting article. It also made me nostalgic as I am also a member and was a resident in Dakte Kood for a brief stay. Koods have played a very significant role in the lives of thousands of aspiring and daring youth of parish and neighboring villages. But for them migration to Mumbai and then onwards to Gulf and other countries and consequent empowerment of hundreds of families in DK would not have possible. Happy to see my student and promising composer and musician Prashanth enjoying the Kood’s life. Let these Koods remain as a testimony for the vision and sacrifice of ealier migrants to Mumbai.
Thanks to Dr. Eugene for finding all the information. Very interesting to read the article and history of St. Lawrence Club.
Dear Dr. Eugene, I am very pleased to read almost a century old story of St. Lawrence Club, as it was called by that name during my stay between 1962 and 1971. Until today I didn\ t know That my grand father, Gabriel Menezes was one of the founding members of St. Lawrence Club. I am very thankful to you for bringing the history of St. Lawrence Club.
Happy Holidays.
-Benny
Thanks friends for your feedback on the article. As Mr. Richard said of Dr. Veerendra Hegde\ s words, it is 100% true. Because as I or my cousins very well know how much struggle we were doing to cultivate Sweet Potato which was a food for atleast 6 months and in rainy season. At least in 20cents we were growing Sweet Potato. Funny thing today is people in Belle pay Rs 20 per Kg for sweet potato , which people may think silly food, but could be used for 6 months by making Appol, Kongyapodi etc... Another example Cucumber (Moge) also if we grow during March, full year we were preserving this vegetable by hanging to the ceiling. How much pain we were taking to grow this, we only know and how much we were loving this vegetable. Today no cucumber cultivation, no \"thendli\" cultivation all makes us worry will our children really know that we could easily make our daily healthy food at home....
excellent article Babuti, yes I fully agree with you, if we see the present trend in belle most of our youngsters are qualified. There is no interest in field of agriculture as there is no income. our forfathers have worked hard and through the income from agriculture and horticulture many have given high class aducation to their children to get good job abroad and bigger cities with good pay, because they were aware of the situation regard to agriculture. so all said and done, the state and central governments must do something quick, otherwise the day is not far as you said que for advance booking of rice. At present because of flow of money from abroad belleans back home are not feeling the pinch of price rice, but future no one know for sure..........less opportunities abroad and god only knows.......
Nice article. Government should encourage farmers by providing them free seeds, equipments, machinery, fertilizers, electricity etc. Main problem is there is no respect for farmers. their income margin is very low. Now a days everyone want to migrate to city and live a luxurious life. There will a very tough time ahead as we run shortage of food. God only knows what is going to happen in next 20 years or so. A time should come where farmers earn much more than doctors and IT engineers for their hardwork.
excellent costumes to match the chirstmas theme. my prayers to God, shower these special children the choicest blesings and take care those who take care of these unfortunate one in this world. hats off to the care takers of these institutions. these are special times for prayers and charity.
Congratulations to you dear Commodore Jerome for your stupendous achievement. You made moodubelle shine. You are an inspiration to millions indeed. Fr Paul Sequeira, belle.
Good observation. If the parking is maintained only on one side of the road, situation may improve substantially. End of the day patience and contribution of all can improve the above.
After 40 years, I see my eldest brother Antony' s visage, of 28 yrs then, one among the managing committee members of Golden Jubilee Celebrations. It is an emotional gift to me, Dr. Eugene. I held a dim view of these clubs and vowed never to be a member, resident or non-resident, during the four years I was based in the city. Let me explain. The , koodam rendered matchless service. It secured a roof over shelter-less, penniless and often jobless emigrant youngsters. In 1974, advised by Cha. Fra, I toured dozens of them, including all three Bellean Koodam, to write a cover story for Udev . While researching for that story, I had some insights into the emotions, values, vices and behaviors of young men living in cramped and, I would say, unhygienic spaces. Most acquitted themselves well. Some didn' t. Those failed biased me. Looking back, as they are dying, I view them favorably as part of our history and tradition in the city. That is why I was waiting for this story. To be frank, months ago, a thought came to my mind to request you to publish a story on the subject. My untold wish is fulfilled.
I agree with you, today situation is changed it is sad to hear once Dr. Virendra heggade told somewhere that in undivided DK district no girl is ready to marry if there is a cow in the house. By this we understand how much respect a farmer will get in the soceity, today we are in IT BT era But,we cannot eat software. Govt should take valuable measures in this juncture uncultivated farm land should be distributed to the farmers who are ready to cultivate and provide them enough facilities to grow enough food grains. Attract modern youth towards agriculture.I Remember Poet SARVAJNA\"s one Lyric KOTI VIDYEGALALLI METI VIDYE YE LESU METI YUM RATI NADEDUDHU ALLADE DESHADHATAVE KEDU SARVAJNA.. Jai Kisan

World will face severe food shortage next year as per some food experts.Regarding Belle mostly elderly people stay at native place, whereas younger generation is either working abroad or other cities India. Most youngsters are not ready to work in the fields as the returns in agriculture is not great, also there are lot of problems. However when food prices go very high due to shortage peoples attitude may change.Thank you Baptist for writing a thought provoking article
A great inspiring article on Mr. Jerome\ s life, Thank you Dr. Eugene. We specially pray to God for his abundant blessings on this couple who still look like, Jack and Rose of Titanic. You may live a long life to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. Congratulations...! and have a great day (26/12) and great years ahead with your loved one\ s filled with lots love and care for each other.

Very well explained Dr. Eugene, Yes there are many people who have contributed to the improvement of Belle parish and its educational institutions. I salute all of them. But after the inception of Bellevision.com most of the people got the deserved place in the history of Belle parish through the articles written by Dr. Eugene in the website. So the credit of all this goes to Bellevision and Dr.Eugene in perticular, as this is a herculian task to gather information by running around piller to posts. thank you for enlighting all the people world over about Belle parish and its place in history.
lets continue to support the cause ......in hand.
The Saint Lawrence clubs has provided @ providing comforts for lot of Boleagars who used to come fresh from village .Yes it is worth remembering during the time of centenary celebrations. But the time has been changed now still clubs will continue by the grace of God @ St Lawrence our patron. Thanks for coverge from Belle vision Dr. Eugine.
There is a saying one crippled person was thinking that God had created him only as he is until he met another on a christmas celebrations day in the parish. I had seen one chirstmas get together with some tablos and was highly impressed. But after seeing the MANASA programmes I changed my view point. They have excelled in all the presentations though they were unfortunate ones. may God bless them with Christmas joy and New year s Happiness and better fortunes.
My friend, you left us too early to the LORD.
May Jerry s gentle soul rest in perfect peace with the Lord, Amen.
Heartfelt condolences to Jerry s family.
I remember Cdr Castelino, who was the supply Officer onboard INS Mysore, when I was a cadet on the same ship. Your story is truly inspiring sir and it gives hope to the ordinary citizen who witness rampant corruption and dishonesty everyday. Godbless and good health always. Anil and Sandra Gonsalves
