Two-day Krishi Mela gets under way tomorrow

Udupi, 14 Oct 2016: The zonal agricultural and horticultural research station, Brahmavar, under the aegis of University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences (UAHS), Shivamogga, is organizing a two-day KrishiMela at Brahmavar from Saturday.

 

The main objective of the mela is transfer of latest agricultural technologies through demonstrations, discussions, field visits in zonal agricultural and horticultural research station through seminars cum interactions of scientists with farmers.

 

This is a festival of farmers and the mela will provide platform to farmers to solve their field problems. Pramod Madhwaraj, district in-charge minister will inaugurate the mela. V Vasudevappa, vice-chancellor, UAHS, Shivamogga will preside. Shobha Karandlaje, Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP will inaugurate the krishi mela exhibition. Dinakara Babu, president, and Sheela Shetty, vice-president, zilla panchayat will inaugurate integrated farming system units on the campus.

 

K M Udupa, managing trustee, Bharatiya Vikasa Trust, Manipal, will inaugurate the newly constructed Krishi Mela platform. T K Sidderame Gowda, and H L Harish, board members of UAHS will inaugurate the ZAHRS website. Organizers have arranged seminars during the event. On the first day, there will be a seminar on cultivation of plantation crops. Use of modern farm implements in agriculture and profitable integrated farming systems are arranged on the second day.

 

Scientists of UAHS, scientists of other elite institutes and progressive farmers will be the resource persons. During Krishimela, farmers can also interact with scientists to clarify their field problems.
