Kundapur, 24 Oct 2013: From where the koel come from the dark woods.  From where the groom comes from, it’s indeed suspense. An eight-year-old destitute girl who was cared by Spoorthidhama Rehabilitation Center is now a grown up girl of twenty years who tied wedding knot with twenty-nine-year-old Venkatesh Kamat, a native of Gowri Bidanoor here on Wednesday October 23.  Both twenty-year-old Puja and twenty-nine-year-old Venkatesh seemed like hero and heroines of bollywood, when they stepped out of the office of city marriage registrar.

The destitute Puja was handed over to the care of Spoorthidhama by Udupi district Child Welfare Committee (CWC) when she was eight-year-old.  She was studying in Class V at that time and now studies in II PUC.  The bridegroom Venkatesh who refused many alliances found Puja as his perfect partner in life, because his mother has passed away and father is suffering from cancer and needs someone to care.  He entrusted finding a bride for him to his sister-in-law who contacted Spoorthidhama chief functionary Dr Keshav Koteshwar and put forth the proposal that was consented by both.  Accordingly, Puja and Venkatesh couple was legally wedded at the registrar’s office in front of the witnesses here on Wednesday.

Both Puja and Venkatesh were tested for AIDS about a month ago, before their legal marriage because both the families were concerned of legality and health, more than traditional practices, said Dr Koteshwar.

‘It’s indeed an ideal marriage; there is no bondage of caste and religion.  No dowry abuse.  No need to worry over repaying the loans for arranging extravagant wedding celebrations.  It’s simple and role model to youth community.  The societal reform will take place, if youth come forward for simple marriage.  First of all, we had to change ourselves, said Dr Keshaw Koteshwar.
