Moral police will be severely punished, warns George

 

• Coastal region known for communal harmony, quality edn became famous for wrong reasons during previous govt, rues Home Minister

 

Mangalore, 19 June 2013, (DHNS): Miscreants who disrupt communal harmony by attacking minorities and involve in moral policing will be severely punished, warned Home Minister K J George.

 

Addressing media persons at Congress Office on Wednesday, he said that the coastal region was known for its communal harmony and quality education. However, it is regretful that under the previous government’s reign, the region became famous for wrong reasons.

 

The present State government will not tolerate such incidents. The government has also decided to drop cases against media persons who were charged in the home stay attack, he said.

 

Students who used to come to the coastal region to pursue education from other parts of the country and world think twice, due to  presence of moral policing. Strict action should be taken and vigilance needs to be tightened, he stressed.

 

DK Women Congress Unit Preisdent Mamatha Gatti said that a case is registered against ASI Srikala, who had complained against the sexual harrasment she faced by ACP Jagannath.

 

"When women come in open, with their problems, they should not be discouraged in this manner. The women in the district will lose confidence in the system," she said and added that dress code system in Colleges should be enforced.

 

"The minorities in the district are hurt due to the attacks on them. When Christians tried to protect their churches, cases were registered against them. Pork was thrown in mosques by miscreants, and the Muslim youth who opposed this act were taken to task. The minorities have put their trust in Congress and it is the duty of the government to keep up their trust," said DK Congress Committee In-Charge President Ibrahim Kodichal.

 

Congress leader Ivan D’Souza said that Christian youth have been framed for protecting their churches during the Church attack incident. Cases against them should be dropped, he demanded.

 

He also put forth a memorandum from the Guest lectures association, demanding that the online recruitment process in selecting guest lecturers, introduced from this year should be suspended.

 

A Congress member, presented a memorandum to the Home Minister stating that the Panjinamogaru double murder case needs to be probed. He also stated the problems faced by public while acquiring passports and the slow passport verification process.

 

Take strict action, cops told

The district cops have been directed to take strict action on people involved in illegal activities, drug mafia and people involving in moral policing in the district. The issue will be discussed with cops, associations and public, in a state level meeting on June 21, said Home Minister K J George.
