Three die, 2 hurt in Mysore Road car crash in Mysoor

Bangalore,   1 December 2012 (TOI):  Three men died on the spot and two others were injured when their speeding car crashed into a pillar, then the median, and careened to the other side and was hit by a goods carrier coming from the opposite direction early Friday on Mysore Road.

 

The deceased are Sachin Shetty (27), Amanullah Sharif (21) and Devraj alias Chinnathambi (39). The injured, Syed Saleem (18) and Syed Habeeb (21), are in hospital. All are residents of Kengeri Satellite Town.

 

Hospital visit

Kengeri police said the five friends had visited Sachin’s relative in a hospital near Mysore Road Thursday night. While returning, they stopped for dinner at a roadside eatery near the Mysore Road check-post. When they resumed their journey, Sachin, who was driving, lost control and crashed into the column of the NICE flyover and then into the median around 12.15 a.m. killing three of them instantaneously. A relative of Sachin said the group had gone to visit his sister-in-law in hospital.

 

“She had recently met with an accident,” she said, adding that Sachin had borrowed the Honda City from a friend.

 

Family man

Sachin was running a chaat and juice centre at Kengeri while Devaraj worked with him. Amanullah was in between jobs. While Sachin and Amanullah were bachelors, Devaraj is survived by wife, a three-month-old baby, and two other children aged seven and four.

 

Habeeb’s brother Syed Rahim, who was following them in another car, was witness to the tragedy. In a statement to the police, he said the car split into two. Though he attributed the accident to a puncture in the front right tyre, the police are yet to confirm it.

 

The hospital said that Habeeb has suffered multiple fractures and some of his ribs have punctured his lungs. He underwent surgery to stem the bleeding. The doctors may also operate his face as there are many fractures on it too.

 

Saleem suffered skull fractures but is said to be conscious. Both are out of danger, doctors said.

 

Case booked

The traffic police booked a case against Sachin for causing death by negligence.

 

Preliminary investigations revealed that Sachin was speeding, all the five are suspected to have consumed alcohol.

 

“We booked a case against Sachin under Section 304(a),” said Additional Commissioner of Police M.A. Saleem.
