Mangalore, 03 Nov 2012 (TOI): It will be a special day for puppies. The Animal Care Trust (ACT) here has earmarked this Sunday as ’Puppy bathing day’. The trust has invited people interested in this activity to join them at their centre at Shakthinagar, located about five kms away in the city.

Trust volunteers and enthusiasts, who love puppies may bath, scrub, clean, powder, feed and play with 45 puppies in the Trust’s centre and make their day bashing on puppy bathing day. Interested may bring biscuits, milk, bread, rusk, banana, puppy pedigree, cerelac, old clothes and jute bags while participating in the programme.

ACT honourary secretary Suma R Nayak told that volunteers and enthusiasts will have the chance to meet a whole bunch of adorable puppies, scrub them clean, powder them, play with them and make them clean enough to find new homes soon.

"The joy one gets on receiving those hundred licks after bath time is priceless. You will be thanked personally by them with all the free licks and hugs. You can bring parle G biscuits for the dogs and also a few bananas for our darling little monkey Situ and for the cows," she said.

ACT, which was founded by five animal lovers in 2000, is engaged in various activities including rescuing animals, birds, shelter them, treat them, organise animal birth control (ABC) programmes, anti rabies vaccination (ARV) programme, animal adoptions and other human education programmes to create awareness for last 12 years.

"Animals are a harassed lot and the cruelty meted out to stray animals is unimaginable. Indeed, animals deserve better. It is while sharing our concern for abandoned and injured animals, we, five animal lovers, decided to form a shelter for them. And thus came into existence ACT. Currently, ACT takes care of rescued animals including about 150 dogs, 20 cats, cows, piglet, monkey and mongoose. ACT is a registered charitable trust recognized by the Animal Welfare Board of India. Its activities are acknowledged and recognized by the Mangalore City Corporation too, she added.
