Manipal: MIM Management Conclave - 2012

Manipal, 14 Sep 2012: “The challenges faced by HR managers in present day scenario in industries are getting tougher and the industrial relations climate is getting vitiated,” said Vijay Nair, Senior Genral manager, HR, Administration and Employee Relations at Mahindra and Mahindra at the Management Conclave-2012 organized by Manipal Institute of Management, Manipal here on Thursday.

 

He was the chief guest for the inaugural function which was presided over by the Pro Chancellor of Manipal University, Dr H.S.Ballal. Professor P. Ramakrishna Chadaga, Director MIM welcomed the gathering. Professor T Jagannthan, the Chief Coordinator and Organizer gave a brief about the event, which dwelt on emerging issues related to Management and Healthcare.

 

Nair spoke on the emerging trends in employee relations in India in pre-liberalization and post-liberalization era and the challenges faced by the HR managers in emerging scenario. Citing an example of industrial unrest he quoted the incident at Maruti, Manesar and explained the widening gap between contract laborers and the permanent ones which led to widespread resentment among the workers.

 

R. Hariharan, Assistant Vice-President and Regional Head, SBI Mutual Fund Private Limited, Bangalore spoke on the various issues and challenges in selling mutual funds and the compounding phenomenon of money and how it should be utilized through SIP of mutual funds. He also gave detailed inputs on the importance of investment and managing a good life after retirement and explained the pros and cons of various investment options.

 

 

Speaking on healthcare services, Mr Abhinandan, DGM, Narayan Hrudayalaya, Bangalore said that the healthcare market would perform well largely as a result of growth in the market, but at the same time healthcare reforms, usage of technology, empowered patients, and patient awareness would be the challenges for the marketing professionals in healthcare fields. He said that healthcare marketing was undergoing a transition from service providers’ dominance to service seekers preference.

 

Mr. Dilip Sawant, VP - Supply Chain, Elder Pharmaceuticals, Mumbai addressed the students on Distribution and Reverse Logistics in Pharmaceutical Industry. While explaining the importance of reverse logistics in pharmaceutical industries, he said that through the process of reverse supply chain logistics, roughly four per cent of products leaving pharmaceutical warehouses are returned for proper disposal or redistribution.  “Now-a-days reverse logistics is considered a significant part of managing the product flow for major pharmaceutical companies,” he said.

 

Mr. Arun Rao, General Manager, Warehousing & 3PL Services, Mumbai spoke about the Advantages and Challenges of third party logistics. In his address, he spoke about the current market status of third party logistics and which are the emerging markets for 3PL.
