Shirva, 28 July 2012: A 200 year old banyan tree collapsed on the road in Chandranagara on Kaup – Shirva road today, Saturday afternoon at about 2.00 pm. With the fall of this tree on the middle of the road the traffic was disrupted for some time. The bottom part of the tree has been completely consumed by white ants, so it has collapsed along with its base itself.

The electric wires and the telephone cables with pole in that place have also fallen off as the tree collapsed. Devaraj Pana from Forest Department, Shirva Police Station ASI Jaya K. and the local people coordinated in the removal of the tree for clearing the access.
