Udupi: District wide Pulse Polio Administration on 19 February

Udupi, 19 February 2012: With the intention to eliminate Polio as part of the Polio Sunday on 19th February, the program for administering the children in the age group of 0 to 5 years throughout the district has been organized, informed District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. Ramachandra Bayari in a press conference.

There has been no case of Polio in the district last year, but still as a precaution this measure has been taken and the parents of all children below 5 years should take advantage of this program, he requested. In Udupi district (Rural 71,436, City 15,968) total 87,404 children of below 5 year age will have to be administered with Polio drops.

Among these children, 39,847 are from Udupi Taluk, 31,659 are from Kundapura Taluk and 15,899 are from Karkala Taluk. For this program
637 booths are established and 2,491 volunteers have been arranged.
Government staff, Officers, Asha – Anganavadi staff, non – government organizations such as Rotary Clubs, Lions Clubs and members of other associations will be joining hands in this program, he said.

On Sunday 19th February the Polio drops will be administered, the Parents must bring their children and have the polio drops administered to the children without fail. Even if they have done that last year, they must have it this time and eliminate polio. With the intention for not to miss it, on 20th and 21st February the polio drops will be administered visiting houses for those who could not come to the booth.

Since the population of migrated workers is more, they are identified as high risk group. In the rural areas of the district 167 and in the city area 15 such high risk groups are identified. We have arranged for administering all the 1626 children for these groups, he said.
