Bangalore: Man kills lover, takes body to police in auto

Bangalore, 04 Jan 2012: When autorickshaw driver Srinivas alias Srini walked into Banaswadi police station around 8 pm on Tuesday with a harried look on his face, inspector T Rangappa never expected him to come up with the words that he did. "Sir, I have killed a woman and her corpse is in my autorickshaw parked outside," Srini said, almost throwing Rangappa off his chair.

 

Srini, 34, had at 2.30 pm strangled his paramour, M Sarala, 32, in his autorickshaw in HRBR Layout, after she failed to return the Rs 5.5 lakh he had lent her. He had come to the police station after roaming around in the autorickshaw with the corpse in the back for five-and-a-half-hours.

 

He took lover’s body around city

 

Autorickshaw driver Srinvas alias Srini and M Sarala were residents of Dodda Banaswadi and stayed 500 metres apart. They were having an affair for over five years and he had lent her Rs7 lakh. Her husband, Murali , who owned an aluminium fabrication unit, was using Srini’s auto to ferry goods.

 

Srini had managed to recover Rs1.5 lakh from Sarala by making her sell her jewellery. When he asked for the rest, she threatened to file a rape case against him. Realizing that she would not repay the amount, he decided to kill her and took her HRBR Layout in his autorickshaw on Tuesday afternoon.

 

After strangling Sarala to death with her veil, Srini realized the gravity of his crime. In a state of shock he drove his autorickshaw around in Banaswadi, Dodda Banaswadi and HRBR Layout till dusk when he decided to surrender.

 

He called up his wife on his mobile . "He just told me that he had committed a heinous crime and was surrendering to the police before switching off his phone. I could not understand the matter and asked my elder brother to go to Bansawadi police station," said S Sushma, Srini’s wife. He also called Murali and asked him to come to Banaswadi police station.

 

"Sushma and Murali did not know about the affair between their spouses," police said.
