Shirva, 09 October 2011: Every religion teaches peace, friendship and courtesy. But today we are stumbling in completely following the religious teachings. This needs to be made aware to the younger generations, said Rev. Dr. Lessy D’Souza - Parish Priest of Shakarapura Church. He was speaking as a guest in the Communal Harmony Day celebrations at Mulki Sundara Ram Shetty College, Shirva, jointly organized along with the college by National Foundation for Communal Harmony New Delhi, on Saturday.

Upon inaugurating the program by lighting the lamp B. Suprasada Shetty - Managing Trustee of Nilavara Shri Mahisha Mardini Temple said that, when we protect the religion the religion protects us. But some people create communal violence in the name of the religion. We need to be alert on this and have to inform the students on the significance of the communal harmony through the programs like these, he said.

Speaking on the occasion Maulana Sirajuddin Jaini Khatib of Sunni Jamiya Masjid Shirva said that, a person’s character has to be seen and not the caste, tribe or religion. We must learn to live friendly by being part in the happiness and sorrow of our neighbours, he said.

College Principal Prof. Y. Baskar Shetty presided over the program. Student Leader Jayaraj conducted oath of the communal harmony to all the students. Student Welfare Officer Prof. Karunakara Nayak welcomed the guests and the gathering. Rastriya Seva Yojane Officer Prof. Vinobnath proposed vote of thanks. Student’s Union Secretary Kumari Shamya Shetty compeered the program.
