Kochi/Mumbai, 18 May 2013 (TOI): The arrests of Sreesanth and Ankeet Chavan have also put a question mark on their upcoming marriages. Chavan’s family is especially caught in a bind since the Mumbai cricketer was supposed to get married on June 2 with his long-time girlfriend and all plans were already in place. "Everyone is disturbed, we are in shock," Ankeet’s brother told news channels parked outside their home.
For Sreesanth, even the marriage plans are hazy. Two days before the spot-fixing scandal broke, he had told a newspaper he intended to get married in September. His brother-in-law Madhu Balakrishna even said the whole controversy was meant to tarnish Sreesanth’s image and spoil his marriage prospects.
On Friday, however, a member of Sreesanth’s family said the marriage plans weren’t concrete. "It’s true we were following-up on a proposal. I don’t want to reveal the name of the girl but all I can tell you is that she is a non-Keralite. Sreesanth and our family members had met the girl. But we had never fixed the marriage. Now I don’t know what will happen," said the family member, who didn’t wish to be named.
A couple of years back there were rumours that Sreesanth was about to marry a girl from Pathanamthitta district in Kerala. Though the two families were all set to fix the alliance, it is learnt the girl’s family pulled out after being fed up with Sreesanth’s tantrums.
