New Delhi, 02 July 2010: Indian Olympic Association President Suresh Kalmadi wants two cricket Test matches slated to be played between India and Australia starting October 2 and 10 to be rescheduled as they clash with the 19th Commonwealth Games that will be held in Delhi from October 3 to 14.
Kalmadi has sent a letter to Union Sports Minister MS Gill asking him to convince the BCCI to reschedule the Tests that are to be held in Mohali and Bangalore.
Kalmadi insists it is important that the BCCI reschedule the entire India-Australia series, which consists of three Tests, as it is important not to have any international cricket in India during the Commonwealth Games.
Kalmadi had, in fact, sent a letter to former BCCI president and current ICC chief Sharad Pawar as early as July 1, 2009 requesting him to ensure that the Board does not schedule any major cricket tournaments during the 2010 Commonwealth Games. But since that request was not met, he’s now seeking Gill’s intervention to make the BCCI reschedule the October Test series.
