New Delhi, 27 June 2015: Teenagers have reportedly bludgeoned their 19-year-old classmate to death with a heavy object at a village in outer Delhi’s Kanjhawala to avenge a slight. Deepak Gulia had in May thrashed and humiliated one of his assailants for wooing his girlfriend and even rebuked the girl for receiving his calls. His body was found in a roadside bush early on Friday.

Deepak and the 17-year-old studied in the same school in Sonepat and stayed at a boys’ hostel. The school had closed for summer vacation since their fight. Deepak’s father, Krishna Gulia, owns a shop selling dairy products at Narela village.

On Thursday night, Deepak’s family members reached Narela police station and registered a missing complaint. Krishna told police his son had left home saying he would attend a friend’s birthday party at a mall in Prashant Vihar. Another friend had informed them that he had been abducted by these friends. The family tried calling his friends but their numbers were found to be switched off. A case was registered and a search began.

Early on Friday morning, villagers of Madanpur Dabas spotted Deepak’s body. Its head had been smashed and the body bore signs of a scuffle. Police and his family were informed. The body was sent to B R Ambedkar Hospital for a post-mortem. The needle of suspicion pointed to the friends he was supposed to meet at the mall. A police team was sent to track down the boy whom he was supposed to meet, but he was missing from his home in Manjari village. A few other classmates were also missing from their respective homes.

On Thursday night, the 17-year-old had convinced one of his female friends to call Deepak and ask him to meet at a Rohini mall to celebrate the birthday of his own girlfriend whom he had not been seeing since the fight in May. She made the call and promised to help them resolve their differences. The time of the meeting was set at 12.30am.

Smelling danger, Deepak had called his friend Ajay and asked him to accompany. When they reached the mall, they found the couple outside in a Swift Dzire. An argument began which led to a scuffle and the two forced Deepak and Ajay inside the car and drove away. There were a few other youths present inside the car. The group dropped Ajay near Rithala Metro station and drove towards Kanjhawala. Ajay managed to reach Narela and informed Deepak’s parents.

A search is on to nab the minor and his female friend. A case of murder has been registered.
