Muri Express derails in UP, 4 dead

Allahabad/Lucknow, 25 May 2015: At least four passengers were feared dead and over 50 injured on Monday when eight bogies of the Muri Express derailed near Sirathu railway station in Kaushambi district of UP. 

 

Officials of Kaushambi district administration said that eight bogies derailed include two general coaches and four sleeper. 

 

The death toll is expected to rise. Condition of many injured is said to be critical. 

 

The cause of derailment is not known as yet. Local villagers were the first to come for rescue. 

 

As per initial reports, Muri express, train No 18109, from Rourkela in Odisha to Jammu Tawi, derailed three kilometres from Sirathu railway station at around 2pm. Sirathu station falls in the Allahabad-Kanpur central section of the busy Delhi-Howrah route. The accident has disrupted movement of other trains. 

 

 

"Eight coaches have derailed and one has capsized. The affected coaches are S3 to S6 coach, along with AC coaches B1, B2, A1 and one general coach. One of the derailed bogies capsized due to the impact of the crash," said a railway official. Railways has rushed relief train from Allahabad to the spot. 

 

State government has announced Rs 2 lakh compensation for the families of victims and free treatment of those injured.
