New Delhi, Nov 25, 2014: Delhi Police have finally cracked the brutal abduction and murder case of a 13-year-old jeweller’s son and arrested two people involved in the crime, highly placed sources have informed.

The suspects, Pawan and Siddharth, are known to the victim jeweller. One of them is the son of an old dealer of the boy’s father, Mukesh Verma.

Special commissioner of police (law and order) Deepak Mishra is likely to address a news conference by 3pm.

The development — which TOI is first to report — comes exactly a week after the boy, Utkarsh, was abducted from near his home in Gandhi Nagar. His body was found the next day (last Wednesday) in Geeta Colony area of east Delhi.

The abductors had demanded Rs 1 crore ransom but killed the child out of fear of being identified.

Special CP Mishra and joint commissioner (eastern range) Sanjay Baniwal were constantly monitoring the weeklong investigation and making crucial decisions which resulted in the solving of the absolutely blind abduction and murder.

A team led by DCP Ajay Kumar interrogated more than 100 people, scanned thousands of numbers and CCTV cameras to get leads and finally nabbed one of the accused on a tip-off. He led the cops to the other.

The ransom call — TOI had exclusively reported the transcript on Sunday — was a major lead for the police in which the abductor addressed the boy’s father by name and seemed to be getting angry unlike professionals.

The voice was also muffled and indicated that somebody was trying to change his voice by putting a cloth on the mouthpiece and talk. This had made police certain that a known person was involved.

They verified all the former and present employees, their movements and call details and finally narrowed down upon the two men.

They were picked up and interrogated on Monday night during which they broke down and confessed to crime. They will be produced before a magistrate on Wednesday morning, police said.
