Udupi, 22 Jun 2013: Taking note of the report of the dangerous situation on the road that cuts across the Babbarya Lake especially to the school going children, the president of Udupi Zilla Panchayat, Upendra Nayak visisted the site on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 11.30 am. After inspecting the spot and and being convinced of the dangerous situation, Upendra Nayak speaking to the media persons said that by the evening of Friday orders would be issued to build safety wall by the side of the road adjoining the lake on both sides.
The president was accompanied by Assistant Agricultural Officer of Jalanayana Abhivruddhi, Mahabala Ganiga, Shantaram Shetty, Ashok,Mrs. Ida Gibba D’Souza, Gerald Fernandes, Devdas Hebbar, Rajendra Shetty, Henry Alva and Gururaj Bhat.
The problem has arisen due to the fact that a bypass road is being constructed from the Lions Club to Ganapanakatte. As the work is in progress there is no sufficient provision for the water to flow freely in the lake thus submerging the road during heavy rains. It is hoped that remedial steps are taken promptly and the safety of the people especially the school going children is taken care of by immediately constructing the safety wall.
