’Days in Diocese’ delegates given warm welcome by Udupi Diocese

Udupi, 14 Jan 2017: Delegates who had arrived from different parts of India for the ‘Days in Diocese’ programme in anticipation of the National Youth Convention to be held at St. Joseph’s Engineering College, Vamanjoor, Mangalore from 18 to 22 January, were given warm welcome by Udupi Diocese on Saturday, 14 January.

 

ICYM office bearers and members of Udupi Diocese were present at the Indrali railway station, Udupi since early morning to welcome delegates arriving from different parts of India.

 

On behalf of Udupi Diocese a formal welcome programme for the delegates was organized at St. Cecily’s College. Around 500 delegates along with youth directors and Sisters from 34 dioceses spread across 11 states of India arrived in procession at the auditorium of the college where the ICYM office bearers formally welcomed the delegates to the ‘Day in Diocese’ programme by offering them diocesan shawls.

 

Fr. Reginald Pinto, Director of ‘Sampada’ provided information to the delegates about the rich art, culture, customs and traditions of Udupi District as well as Udupi Diocese. Thereafter, the delegates were sent to different parishes of the diocese.

 

 

Fr. Edwin D’Souza-Director of Youth Commission of Udupi Diocese, Fr. Chetan Machado-YCS National Director, Fr. Vincent Crasta-parish priest of Nakre, Fr. Royston Fernandes-assistant parish priest of Mother of Sorrows Church, Uudpi, Fr. William Martis, Loyel D’Souza-president of ICYM of Udupi Diocese, Felina D’Souza-secretary, Don D’Souza-treasurer, Onil Andrade-PRO, Sr. Hilda Mascarenhas and Walter D’Souza-animators, Arthur Dias-vice president of parish pastoral council, Deric Mascarenhas-former president, Royton D’Souza, Vinyl D’Souza, Flexan D’Silva and other office bearers of iCYM were present during the programme.

 

During the ‘Days in Diocese’ programme from 14 to 17 January, these delegates with be staying with allotted families in each of the parishes of the diocese and will have an experience of food habits, language as well as customs, traditions and culture of the locality in which they would live.

 

The valedictory programme of ‘Days in Diocese’ will be held at St. Lawrence Minor Basilica, Attur-Karkala on 17 January at 10 am. The Bishop of Udupi Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo will concelebrate the mass and thereafter, the youth representatives will be given a warm send off.
