Mangaluru: Yenepoya Dental College observe Oral Hygiene Day

Mangaluru, 02 Aug 2016: Yenepoya Dental College, department of periodontology, in association with Glaxosmithkline Limited and Colgate Palmolive India Limited observed Oral Hygiene Day here on Monday August 1.

 

Dr B H Sripathi Rao, Dean, Yenepoya Dental College inaugurated the function and spoke on the importance of oral hygiene day. He also emphasized the various activities which would take place as a part of the 25th year celebrations of the Yenepoya Dental College. Oral hygiene day is celebrated all over India to commemorate the birth anniversary of late Dr G B Shankwalkar, the founder of Indian Society of Periodontology.

 

 

A week prior to the oral hygiene day, quiz and collage competitions were conducted by the department of periodontology for the Interns and Postgraduate students and the prizes were distributed to the winners by the dignitaries during the function. The day was celebrated with various activities like patient education on oral health, brushing techniques demonstration and oral hygiene education pamphlets to the patients who visited the Department of Periodontology and the Yenepoya Medical College OPD. Patients were given oral hygiene kits provided by Glaxosmithkline Ltd and Colgate Palmolive India Limited.

 

On this occasion a textbook titled, Essential Quick review on Periodontics for the BDS undergraduates by Dr Vinita Ashutosh Boloor was also launched.

 

Dr Shashikanth Hedge, professor and head of department of periodontics, Dr Sham S Bhat, professor and head of department of periodontics and preventive dentistry, Professor Dr Rajesh Kashyap, Dr Akhtar Hussain, Dr Vinita Boloor, Glaxosmithkline Ltd representative Guruprasad, Rajesh, Colgate Palmolive India Ltd and Naveen, representative of Jaypee Publications presided the inaugural function.
