Mangaluru, Nov 29, 2014: Yenepoya Medical College, Yenepoya University, joined the Medical Council of India’s collective quest to address the vision launched by PM Narendra Modi on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
Yenepoya Medical College powered the mission through a cleanliness drive, the mission was spread across for a week comprising of various events.
The programme was presided by Dr Ghulam Jeelani Qadiri, principal of Yenepoya Medical College.
University officials including registrar Professor Dr C V Raghuveer, Controller of Examination Professor K P Jayarajan, heads of departments, faculty and students took part in the launch of Swacch Bharat mission.
Student volunteers prior to cleaning up the campus were briefed about their responsibilities. They initiated cleaning in campus, then in the neighborhood and then to conclude their campaign, went on a mass pamphlet distribution and awareness campaign.
The students visited different shops in and around Tokottu Junction here and sensitized shop owners, customers and by-standers on garbage disposal. This not only caught attention of people but also showcased innovations to reach out for the mission laid down by PM Narendra Modi. Student volunteers participated in large numbers of around 120-150 in more than 6 different locations in campus and outside.
The distribution of pamphlets containing essential details of waste segregation was printed in English and in Kannada. The students not only distributed the pamphlets but also interacted with citizens to know their thoughts and their opinion on how to keep the area clean.
It is said, a clean environment will go a long way to prevent communicable diseases, to reduce breeding sites of vectors and to build a healthy surrounding. This initiative will direct and inspire many more folks to join in the meaningful effort.
