Bantwal: inter-state burglars in police net; major breakthrough in solving several cases

Bantwal, 17 March 2016: Three-member gang of interstate dacoits, on whom over 24 cases were registered in Karnataka and other states of the nation were arrested by the police lead by Vittal sub-inspector at a check post located at Saradka on Kalladka – Kanhangad near here on Thursday March 16.
The arrested has been identified as 45-year-old Kempayya yane Harish Shetty yane Ravi, a resident of Chandkoor in Nada gram panchayat of Beltangady taluk, 30-year-old Farouq yane Ummer Farouq, a resident of Agartamule in Manjeshwar of Kerala and 52-year-old Satish Bhandary yane Satish, a resident of Suvarna Nagar, Kallabettu in Mangaluru taluk.
Another accused Ashraf yane Chilly Ashraf, a resident of Miyapadav, near here has fled to overseas.
The police seized 3 Maruti cars and 2 motorcycles from them.
The gang was involved in looting Rs 4.5 lac from a areca nut trader by throwing chilly powder into his eyes at nearby Ananteshwar temple at the limits of Vittal polie station, burgling a wine shop in Salettoor, at the limits of Vittal and decamping cash from the till, looting cash by assaulting a trader in the limits of Moodbidri police station, looting cash and snatching gold chain of a canteen owner, stealing 2 Maruti cars and motor cycles, looting Rs 4.5 lac cash from a trader by threatening at nearby Natekal at the limits of Ullal police station, stealing Maruti car at Kulshekar in the limits of Mangaluru rural police station, etc.
The burglary cases are booked on Kempayya yane Harish Shetty at Hyderbad for burgling 25 kilograms of gold from Rajalaxmi Jewellers, 21 kilograms from Chemmannur Jewellers, Banaswady in Bengaluru, burgling Rs 1.91 crore from Corporation Bank branch of R T Nagar, Bengaluru and 5 burglary cases in Mumbai. He was imprisoned for 8 years and later absconded without reporting at the court. He was the associate of underworld don Ravi Poojary.
The cases of dacoity are booked on Satish Bhandary and he is also accused in a murder. He is accused in a shootout case that occurred at Kuloor at the limits of Panambur in Mangaluru 6 years ago.
The cases are booked on Ummer Farooq who is absconding for dacoity and murder at the limits of Kumble and Manjeshwar police stations in Kerala.
With the arrest of the gang, Vittal police have solved 12 cases in Dakshina Kannada and 24 cases in Bengaluru, Kasargod, Hyderabad and Mumbai.
The arrests were made at the direction of Dakshina Kannada SP Dr Sharanappa, ACO Vincent Shantakumar and Bantwal DySP Bhaskar Rai, by Vittal sub-inspector Prakash Devadiga, assistant sub-inspector Kittu Moolya, police personnel Rukmaya, Balakrishna, Praveen Rai, Rakshit Rai, Bhavit Rai, Lokesh, Praveen Kumar, Ramesh, Bantwal circle inspector led group – Girish, Janardhan, Naresh Shetty, driver Narayan, system department staff Prashant and Sampat.
